One of the new features for HelpMaster Pro v8 is the ability to search the custom data information that is stored in the different entities (clients, sites, assets and jobs).  This is achieved via the "Advanced Search" section of the entity search screen.

Build up a full search criteria and then click Search.  The results will be displayed below.

Note for custom report writers and application developers!

Here's a handy tip for generating SQL as the basis for your custom reports.

Use the advanced search feature as mentioned above, however before you click the search button, start a SQL Server profiler trace to capture all of the SQL that HelpMaster Pro sends to the database.  After the result set is displayed in HelpMaster Pro, check the SQL Server profiler utility for the SQL that generated that set.  This could be a good starting point for your custom report queries and views.

To dig a little deeper, there are many database views that have already been made to help you piece together the different tables of information that make up the HelpMaster Pro database.  For custom data for each of the entities, check out these views...

  • qryCrossTabCustomDetails_Asset
  • qryCrossTabCustomDetails_Client
  • qryCrossTabCustomDetails_Job
  • qryCrossTabCustomDetails_Site
  • qryCrossTabCustomDetails_Job

These views can then be joined to copies of the reporting views for each of the entity types for a complete reporting resultset

  • rptCompleteDetails_Asset
  • rptCompleteDetails_Client
  • rptCompleteDetails_Job_ClientSite1
  • rptCompleteDetails_Site

For a full explanation of each database object, please download the database dictionary which is available from the downloads section on this website.

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas on how to search for and extract custom data from HelpMaster Pro v8.

If you have any questions, please post and I'll be glad to provide more information / screen shots etc.

Best regards,

Rod
