We have been looking at implementing the Email Manager service to automatically create HM jobs from incoming emails into our team mailbox. Our organisation uses Lotus Notes (Version 7 Notes client) as the enterprise messaging system.  The Helpmaster Pro documentation indicates that Lotus Notes is supported but when I access the Email Manager and start to create a new profile, the only selections available in the Connect to dialog are the Outlook profile names.  Can you please provide some guidleines (or links to relevant configuration documentation) on how we would set up Email Manager with Lotus Notes.

Hi Michael,

Welcome to the HelpMaster Pro discussion board and thanks for your post.

The Email Manager can only access a Lotus Notes mailbox via a Microsoft Outlook profile. This means that you'll have to install Microsoft Outlook on the same machine as the Email Manager Service. When you do this, you can create a Microsoft Outlook profile and connect it to your Lotus Notes email store. Once you've done this, you can select the Outlook profile in the Email Manager configuration and everything should work OK. The basic architecture of the Email Manager email connectivity goes something like this

Email Manager Profile >>> Microsoft Outlook Profile >>> Email store of choice

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you require specific information and I'll be glad to help.

The Email Manager will change your helpdesk!

Best regards,

Rod

Rod,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Outlook doesnt support native connection to Notes/Domino servers, so what transport would you typically use for this - POP3, IMAP?  We dont have these mailbox protocols enabled on our Domino servers, so I think the only option we would have is to try the Outlook Connector for Lotus Notes (which makes Notes look like a standard MAPI store to Outlook).  Does this sound appropriate? What are other customers with Notes using?

BTW I just had a look at the Email Manager for the first time yesterday, and was very impressed with the functions available - partiularly in setting up multiple profiles, the rules management and the flexibility to create or action jobs in a highly customisable fashion.  Well done!

...Mick.

Hi Mick,

Yes, you're right - you'll need to use the Outlook Connector for Lotus Notes. Sorry I didn't mention this before. This is how other Lotus Notes users are doing it. Glad you like the Email Manager. We've got big plans for the improvement of this product, so it's only going to get a lot better.

The key to configuring it up right is in the templates.

Best regards,

Rod

Where does one get the Outlook Connector for Lotus Notes?
Does Groupwise need a connector at all?
