The "From" address behaviour

Whenever any email is sent, there is always a "From" address, that is, the sender's email address.  HelpMaster allows you to set a default "From" address for all out-going email that is sent for Email templates, Email Manager email and Priority Manager email.  This may be desirable if your organization wants to use just one email address as the "public face" of your organization.   When clients respond to this email address, the email will be delivered to the same inbox.  Conversely, being able to set a "From" address also means that different users of HelpMaster can specify different "From" addresses to suit their preference.

Due to the fact that the "From" address can be set at different places within HelpMaster, it is important to understand the hierarchy of how HelpMaster implements the "From" address.  HelpMaster will use the "From" address when sending email set in the following order, with the higher numbered "From" address settings taking precedence.

  1. Administration Settings
  2. User Settings
  3. Email templates
  4. Priority Manger Schedule or Email Manager profile

Example 1

If a regular HelpMaster user has their personal "From" address (#2 in the list) set to "matthewevans@wizbangwidgets.com" and then they use a Email template that has the "From" address (#3) set to "helpdesk@wizbangwidgets.com", the email will be send with the Email template "From" address (#3).

Example 2

If a Email template has the "From" address (#3 in the list) set to "helpdesk@wizbangwidgets.com" and that template is used by the Priority Manager to send email, then the "From" address (#4) of the Priority Manager schedule will be used.
