The Email Manager service is the working element of the Email Manager - it is the application that executes all of the Email Manager profiles that you have defined. The Email Manager service runs either as a Windows Service (if using Microsoft Exchange), or as a Windows application (if using POP/IMAP). The service is usually installed on a "server" style machine that does not get powered down. Once it has been installed and configured, it requires no further maintenance or configuration. It will run continuously on the machine and perform all of the HelpMaster Email Manager activity.
The Email Manager Service is configured and controlled via the use of the Email Manager service configuration screen.
HelpMaster ships with 2 versions of the Email Manager service. One has been designed to run as a Windows Service and should be used if your Outlook profile connects directly to Microsoft Exchange. The other is a Windows Application and should be used if your Outlook profile connects to your mail accounts using POP/IMAP.
Both services appears as .exe files in the HelpMaster installation directory. Only "HMP.EmailManager.ServiceExe.exe" can be run from Windows Explorer. The other is run from the Windows Services Console.

If you are connecting Outlook to a mail source via POP or IMAP, it is necessary to use the Email Manager application service (HMP.EmailManager.ServiceExe.exe) as the Email Manager processing engine. The Email Manager Windows service (HMP.EmailManager.Service.exe) will not work in this configuration.
The reason for this is that in order to retrieve email via POP/IMAP, Outlook needs to be opened and running. Email is downloaded and stored in a .pst file at regular intervals as specified in your POP/IMAP configuration. Outlook exclusively locks the .pst file to all other accounts. This means that the Email Manager Windows service cannot access it. However, by using the application version of the Email Manager service, this issue is avoided because both Outlook and the Email Manager application service are running under the same Windows login account.
Run the Email Manager application service directly from the HelpMaster installation location as shown in the screen shot above.

If your Outlook profile connects directly to Microsoft Exchange you will need to use the Email Manager Windows service.

Before the service can be started, you will need to specify a user account.
The Email Manager service will log events in both the Windows Event Log, as well as the HelpMaster database. See Email Manager event log for further details.
