Hi all,

I hope this comes as good news to any of you who have been experiencing almost impossibly slow browsing through Mozilla Firefox. I was having so much trouble with this, I nearly went back to internet explorer!

A wise sage once said "The only thing IE is good for is to download Firefox". Hopefully the following will help restore your faith in mankind... well... in Firefox anyway.

The symptoms:

• Unable to open more than one tab.
• Very, very, very slow to load a page.
• Sometimes a complete hang.
• The loading icon just keeps on'a'spinnin'.

The result:

• Waning confidence in Firefox
• I hadn't told anyone that IE is "a steaming pile" in over a week
• I had almost set IE as my default browser!

The Solution:

• Type about:config in the address bar of Firefox
• Scroll down to these lines (in alphabetical order) and set to these values by double clicking the number:

                    network.http.max-connections 24
                    network.http.max-connections-per-server 8
                    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy 4
                    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server 2
                    network.http.pipelining false

• Restart Firefox

Firefox should now be your friend again! I'm not sure what caused these values to stray so far from their default. You can find the defaults here: http://www.mozilla.org/qu...g/docs/netprefs.html

Let's hope that Firefox 3 has this sorted out. I haven't tried the beta, but would love to hear from any of you that have. Also, please post your results here to let us know how you go with this resolution.
