Determining your IIS version

IIS (Internet Information Services) is available as an added feature of most Microsoft Windows operating systems.  The following table displays which versions of IIS ship with each compatible version of Microsoft Windows.  For further information about Microsoft IIS, refer to the Microsoft IIS website.

Please use the table below to assist you in choosing the correct installation procedure.

Note!  IIS 7.5 and below is not compatible with the new HelpMaster Web Portal.

IIS Version Operating System Multiple Sites Application Pools Pipeline Mode
7 (not supported) Windows Vista, Server 2008 RTM Yes Yes Integrated, Classic
7.5 (not supported) Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 Yes Yes Integrated, Classic
8 Windows 8(.1), Server  2012 (R2) Yes Yes Integrated, Classic
10 Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 Yes Yes Integrated, Classic

NOTE: While IIS is available on desktop operating systems, it is advisable not to use a desktop operating system to host the HelpMaster Web Portal in a commercial environment. This is especially the case if scalability and reliability are of importance.
