    Hi,

We have two helpmaster databases that are used by different departments within our company.

Many people access Helpmaster via Citrix when they are outside of the office.   When you are connected via Citrix and select the HelpMaster short cut the login box is always displayed with the user name of the last person who accessed helpmaster via Citrix (and of course their database connection string).

This means when someone else comes to connect they don't realise that the connection string is pointing to the wrong database and think they are just entering their username and password incorrectly.  (Causing loads of frustration as a lot of people don't even know the other database exists!!!)

Is there anyway we can add a switch to the shortcut to force it to connect to the database we want?

    Thanks
    Joanne

    Hi Joanne,

    Thanks for explaining the situation.

Regarding the shortcut, there no switch that you can use, but perhaps you could tweak the XML file that HelpMaster uses to connect to the database.

Have a look at the file "C:\ProgramData\PRD Software\HelpMaster Pro 9.1\HelpMaster Pro Application Settings.xml".  This is a Vista / Windows 7 file path.  For XP machines, try C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\

HelpMaster reads this file every time it starts.  This is where it gets the last logged on user, as well as the database connection.

The XML element called "Desktop" contains all of the configured database connections, last logged on user and last logged on database. It might be possible to manipulate this file with a logon script for each of your users so that they automatically point to the correct database.  You'll need to update the following attributes.

setting id="LastUserID" value="HMP LogonID goes here"  (Change the value to match the person that just logged on.)
setting id="LastConnectionIndex" value="2"   (Change the value to match the desired database connection)

I don't have a lot of Citrix knowledge, but can't this file be added to the user profile so that they get served out their own version of this instead of sharing it with everyone else?

    Hope this helps.

    Rod
