Folks

It would be good to be able to link an asset to a user during the asset import process.  As it is we have to import the assets and then go in an link them to a user manually.  This is very high on the drudge scale when importing large numbers of assets.

Regards

John Suhle

Hi John,

Thanks for the suggestion. Are your assets linked to your clients in a one-to-one relationship, or are your assets shared by multiple clients?

Best regards,

Rod

Rod,

I wish!

Unfortunately our client base has almost every permutation:

One to one
One user to many assets
Many usres to one asset

It just depends on their business model.

Regards

John.

OK, thanks John. I had a feeling you were going to say that. I'll add this to our wish list.

Hi John,

Good news. The latest maintenance release of HelpMaster Pro v8.0.18 released today (14 October 2008) now has the ability to link up to 5 clients to an imported asset. Further information is located here

Rod,

This still does not solve the basic problem of being able to associate assets and users in the dot csv file and upload them in one go.

Or have I missed something here?

For example I am in the process of uploading our hardware warranty support into HMP which is literally thousands and thousands of asset records, if I cannot associate the asset to a user and site in the dot csv file I will have to pay a temp to come in and open each and every record and link a user to the asset.

User information is not offered as an option during the asset upload mapping process.  That is the problem.

Keep up the good work

John

Hi John,

If you have a CSV file that contains both asset and client information, and the clients do not already exist in HelpMaster Pro, then you may need to do your importing in 2 stages.

1st, import your client information from the CSV file, only mapping the client based information to the client destination. Now your new clients are in HelpMaster Pro.
Then in a second import stage using the same CSV file, import your asset information where you can now use the new client mappings to map them to the clients that you imported in the 1st stage.

Hope this makes sense. Please let me know if I've missed the mark here..

Best regards,

Rod
