After installing the latest round of MS patches, users wuth Windows 7 at my company can no longer open Helpmaster Pro. As soon as you launch the program you recieve an error saying that Helpmaster Pro has stopped working with the following details:

    Description:

    Stopped working

    Problem signature:

    Exception Offset: 0000b9bc

    Hi Dean,

Thanks for reporting this.  Yes, it seems that the latest round of Windows Updates has killed HelpMaster v9.1.  We're still investigating exactly why this occurs.

Others have reported that the following updates are causing issues.

MS11-056: Security Update for Windows (KB2507938)

Jason reported this..." After spending some time installing all updates individually I have tracked the problem down to 2 updates. The problem updates appear to be: KB2507938 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2507938) & KB2533623 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2533623)"

Some time ago we had an issue with a .net 4 framework issue.  In this case, this knowledge base article was helpful. https://prdsoftware.com/h...rticle.aspx?view=136 and I submit this here as a potential insight into the nature of the issue.

Currently we are advising clients affected by this issue to either..

    1. Uninstall the service-packs affecting the crash
    2. Upgrade to v10, or v11 of HelpMaster which are unaffected by these Microsoft updates

Please note also, that since the release of v11, v9.1 is currently in a 3 month "End of life" period as per our support terms and conditions.

I'll post further information here as it comes to hand.

    Thanks,

    Rod

    Thanks Rod.

I can confirm removing the 2 above patches fixed the issue.

    Hi Rod,

We seem to be having this issue after the latest round of MS patches.

Do you know which patch/s may have caused this?

    Cheers,

    Dean

    Hi Dean & David,

    I have just confirmed that Windows Security update KB2567680 also causes HelpMaster v9.1 and older to crash when launched. So in summary all of the following Windows updates must now be removed to fix the issue;

    KB2507938 (No reboot required)
    KB2533623 (No reboot required)
    KB2567680 (Reboot required)

Of course the preferred fix is for clients to upgrade to the latest version of HelpMaster, v11.

    Regards,

    Dennis
