Well finally, I am getting round to upgrading our HMP to the latest version..We are on 7.5.177, But have realised that my database is on Sql2000 and the newer versions need Sql2005/2008...

So before I can do anything I need to upgrade the database...I have a Sql2005 server already that I can move to..

Can anyone give me some advice on how??? Or do I need to send in a copy???

    Regards

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Good to hear you're upgrading.  v9.1 is a great improvement over v7.5.

The basic upgrade process for you would be something like...

    1. Make a backup of your 7.5 database
    2. Restore the backup to your SQL Server 2005 instance (you might like to rename it also in this process)
    3. Install HelpMaster v9.1
    4. Run the database and reports Wizard to upgrade your database - point it at your SQL Server 2005
    5. Run the v9.1 Desktop edition and connect to your newly upgraded database, and that's it!

    Thanks Rod,

But when I try to upgrade the database using the wizard it tells me that it isn't a valid database.

Are you sure that those instructions work when moving a SQL2000 database to a SQL2005??

    Chris

It could be a permissions issue. When you restore your database to the new SQL Server, please ensure that the account you use to connect the HelpMaster Database and Reports Wizard has sufficient database (SQL Server) permissions to read, write and "own" the database. db_owner permission is essential for performing a database upgrade.

If you know the SQL Server "SA" account (system administrator) you may like to connect using that as it has all the permission you require.

If it still doesn't work, please let me know.

    Hope this helps,

You were correct it was a permissions issue!
    Many thanks!
All I have to do now is sort out why it thinks my support has expired and get a new key as the current v9 one isn't working!!!

    Nearly there!
