    We received the following query from a client recently and were wondering whether the current default behaviour is prefferred by most or not;

    We made some security changes, whereby General Users could only view jobs assigned to the skill group of the staff member only.

    This was working fine, however users could not view their owns jobs once they were re-assigned to another skill group? I am not sure if this has been done by design, however I thought that a user would be able to view their own jobs regardless of which skill group it was assigned to with the above security defined.

    The current default behaviour is that the Staff user will not be able to view this job once it is re-assigned to another SkillGroup as for all intense and purposes the Staff user is the client or end user in this instance. Could everyone who reads this please indicate their preference. Thanks.

    Dennis,

    We require the following;

    Clients to have the ability to track their own jobs (currently done using the Web Client Interface)

    Staff to have the ability to action/track jobs assigned to their own "Primary" Skill Group

    Staff to have rights to view/action jobs from other Skill Groups as determined under the new security module

    Staff to have rights to track their own jobs (ie the same ability that Clients have above).

    Currently, staff are not able to submit/track jobs concerning themselves therefore, although they have higher access rights than Clients, they have no ability to follow the progress of their own requests and rely on the Administrators to verbally advise the progress when asked.

    We currently assign each Staff member two logons (Staff and Client) and this is obviously a hopeless solution but the only one available.

    Folks

    We use HMP in a multi-customer environment, where separation of customer data is absolutely essential.

    Rod and his team made modifications to the search funtions on the web interface that solved the problem for us.

    However you must structure your client and site data in such a way that allows you to assign the privileges to the relevant levels.

    In our case the highest level is ourselves, ASI, we then break it into

    ASI

    Customer

    Country

    State/province

    Area

    Locality

    In this way we can assign rights to each level and by adding users into the appropriate level they can only see data relating to themselves or their subordinate organisations.

    So anyone at the locality level can only see data relating to that location

    At the area level they can see all localities associated with that area and nothing in any other area

    At the state level they can see all the areas under them and of course all the localities under each area but no data for any other state and so forth.

    We have found that combined with the enhanced web search functions that this has worked very well allowing us to provide the appropriate level of access to each level.

    Hope this helps

    John
