    Finally taking the plunge and upgrading to v9 from 7.5 this Friday morning. I'm hoping the "Good" part about Good Friday is that this upgrade goes without any hitches.

    I've gone over the installation material to prepare. Any other tips people have for me?

    Hi muser,

    Good to hear you're upgrading to v9. Now is a good time, because with the recent release of v9.0.2, we've ironed out a lot of the initial issues with the v9 release. It's proving very stable and all of the known upgrade issues (particularly database upgrades) have been corrected.

    Having said that, if anything is going to be an issue, it's usually the database upgrade. To offset this, I would recommend that you try converting a copy of your live database using the v9 database and reports wizard before the weekend, just to make sure that your database will convert without issues. If there are issues, you can send through the conversion log and we can (hopefully) correct it before this coming Friday.

    Once the database converts, the rest of the upgrade is relatively easy.

    For the Desktop

    1. Register the new database with a v9 code (If you don't have one, please email our support / sales dept.)
    2. Uninstall all traces of v7.5 + manually clean up any log files, and other files that may be left over in the original installation directory.
    3. Install v9
    4. Connect to the new database
    5. Start getting used to the new look and feel!

    For the services

    1. Uninstall all traces of v7.5
    2. Install v9
    3. Configure the Email Manager / Priority Manager services and start them

    Upgrading over a long public weekend could be a little risky though. The PRD Software office will be shut during this time, so your tech support options are limited should you require them.

    We did a test conversion on the db last night and got no errors. Looking good so far. Upgrading to 9.0.2, we do the v9 install then run the 9.0.2 exe patch?

    Hi muser,

    Good to hear the database upgrade went well.

    Each HelpMaster Pro release is a full install that is capable of upgrading from previous versions - that is, we don't use the software model where you install a base version and then patch it up to the latest.

    All you have to do is download the v9.0.2 installer from the downloads section of this website and install this version to do your database upgrade, workstation installs etc.

    Hope this makes sense.

    OK. Our upgrade went well after a small hiccup. Just trying to figure out the Active Directory config part but everything else is working well.
